manga review:TRIGUN

This is one of the mangas with the most deep set up. Its a gun action manga, it has a western american taste, and it is also a science fiction.
The main character of this manga is a guy named "Vash the Stampede". He is classified as a "Natural Disaster" for he is always in the center of the destruction that happens. He has a wild, inhuman technique with his gun, and he is also a picifist.

The story takes place in a planet, it doesn't say what the name is, but its a devastated planet.
The people there are barely surviving thanks to the "Plant". The "Plant" is some sort of power source that was carried in the immigration ships called the "SEEDS" to terraform a new planet.
Now, the reason why the people are on that planet was because of a big accident called the "Big Fall". The,"Big Fall" was a big accident of immigrant ships going out of control and falling down into the devastated planet by gravity. Apparently, Vash had something to do with this accident and the fact that the accident happened more than 100 years ago is another interesting thing. Adding to that the accident also involved a guy called "Knives", so he and Vash are the key to this story.

Unfortunantly, the fist series of Trigun end with tankos vol2, due to the discontinuation of the magazine, "Gekkan-Shounen Captain". But it restated in a new magazine called "Young King Hours" changing its name to "TRIGUN MAXIMUM".

This manga will also be in theaters, not in live action for goodness, and will be comming back with a whole new story so better check that out.

Western Duelist Gunman "PEACE MAKER" by Ryouji Minagawa

Gun action mangas might be becoming a bit overdone, but a new wind is blown from the famous author of "Project ARMS", Ryouji Minagawa.

"PEACEMAKER" is illustrared with pure gun action and duels. A duelist named Hope.Peace comes across a mysterious little girl,Nicola.Crimson. She is chased by a group of supreme killers, the "Crimson Executor". Hope, who was on a journey to find his brother finds out that he is a member of the Crimson Executor and the story starts to turn around. Along with Hope joins gambler Kyle.Parman and duelist Beat.Gabriel.

In this story, there are alot of gun action tricks."Spot burst shot" is a shot that hits the same spot with two continuous shots. "Get off three shots" is a applied form of the spot burst shot which hits  three different spots. And a lot more cool tricks are illustrated.

The story seem to take place somewhere in the end of 18th and the beginning of 19th century in America and India.

Unlike "Project ARMS" which illustrated the development of future technology and hightech computer gigs, "PEACEMAKER" focuses on guns. That might be because guns were the frontline of technology. Other than that, there is something similar about the characters who compose the main characters with "Project ARMS". "PEACE MAKER" might become a Retro version of "Project ARMS"

Top 10 manga 2010 in japan

As said, this blog will be casting some information about what is going on with the manga in japan. Some may be already translated some may not be some might be translated in the near future but here it goes.

「このマンガがすごい2010」(klono manga ga sugoi 2010 meaning The great manga of 2010.) is a little booklet sold for 500円. Its a set of an interview with some of the best selling manga authors and a ranking based on a survey. Simply, it tells the must read mangas of the year.

Here are the rankings.

  1. Bakuman
  2. ONE PIECE
  3. seishounen magazine 1978-1983
  4. hoshi mamoru inu
  5. moteki
  6. koukou kyuuji zawasan
  7. Full Metal Alchemist
  8. sei☆oniisan
  9. toriko
  10. yowamushipedaru
You can see how shounen jump is dominating the ranking if you look at the top. But its surprising how bakuman got more votes than the ever popular onepiece. moteki is a manga aimed at an older age about 25 to 30. This is a comedy manga about a 30 year old guy struggling to go steady with girls. Out of the top 10, 80% of the manga is aimed at teenagers or younger, but in contrast the Moteki shows us something significant about the issues those age groups of 25 to 30 is going through.

So this was my first entry. I hope you can see that manga is reflection of a social phenomenon. In foreign countries, mangas like Moteki that illustates a japanese society might be unlikely to be read. Instead genres like sci-fi is easy and understandable. You might be able to spread your genre by knowing local cultures of japan.
